North Star Special Events Company in Northwood, Iowa, with the permission of Pangburn Stock Farm have for the past five years created a giant 12-acre maze cut out of a field of corn.  What more is the state of Iowa known for, but as the largest producers of corn in the U.S.?

In 2002, the 12-acre field of corn was cut into the shape of a young boy holding on to a show steer with one hand and a purple ribbon with the other with the words "Grand Champion 2002" bannered above.  This was a tribute to the agricultural industry of our state as well as the famous Iowa Corn Fed Beef, and the quality associated with it.  We pride ourselves on the quality of life rural Iowa provides and the strength of organizations that promote agriculture to our youth, such as 4-H and FFA.  The North Star Corn Maze of Iowa promotes not only the state, but North Iowa as a great place to live, work and do business!

The theme for the 2003 maze was the Wild, Wild West sculpted with state-of-the-art technology into an aerial piece of art showing a stagecoach, horses, Indians, and buffalo.  Both this maze and the design for 2002 were created by professional maze designer, known for her maze designs around the country and the well-known Dyersville, Iowa, "Field of Dreams" Corn Maze.  She was the promoter and event manager of the Wisconsin Sesquicentennial Maze that received national media coverage.

In 2004, co-owner Bryn Pangburn was ready for the challenge of designing her own maze.  Deciding on an African Safari theme, she incorporated a game throughout the maze similar to a scavenger hunt.  During an interview with the Albert Lea Tribune last August, Bryn told reporter Jennifer Rogers, "There are 15 stations to find throughout the maze.  You are given a maze map, and as you follow the map, you come across these stations that pertain to various animals that live in Africa.  You might find an animal native to Africa made out of corn and information on that animal."

The last four years, the Pangburns have tried to do something that is educational which also helps with the direction of the maze.  School groups, 4-H clubs, and church groups have all tested their minds, bodies, and spirits by exploring the paths in the maze and searching for clues that lead them back to the victory tent.  The theme in 2005 was Treasure Island.  Last year was a great adventure of challenge and strategy as mermaids and sea creatures highlighted the 2006 Under the Deep Blue Sea corn maze.
